Newswise — Burnham Institute for Medical Research (Burnham) has announced the election of Peter Preuss to its board of trustees. Preuss, president and founder of The Preuss Foundation, brings expertise in business, philanthropy and science to Burnham.
"I am pleased both on a personal and professional level that Peter Preuss has become a trustee at Burnham. He and his wife Peggy will bring additional energy and expertise that will help the Institute move forward in the 21st Century," said Burnham Institute for Medical Research board chair Malin Burnham.
Preuss has been a leader in the San Diego community for more than two decades. In 1985, he established The Preuss Foundation, which fosters communication between cancer researchers by hosting scientific seminars and conferences on the most recent advances in brain tumor research.
Prior to creating the foundation, Preuss headed Integrated Software Systems Corporation (ISSCO), then one of the world's leading independent developers and suppliers of visual information systems software.
Preuss is a Regent Emeritus of the University of California and served as a Regent for 14 years.
Preuss has served on numerous boards, including The National Brain Tumor Foundation, Duke University Cancer Center, Dartmouth Medical School, The Children's Hospital and Health Center of San Diego, University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and other organizations. He is a past president of UCSD's Cancer Center Foundation and has served on its board of directors since 1984.
Mr. Preuss is the naming founder of The Preuss School, a charter middle and high school located on UCSD's La Jolla campus, which currently ranks 8th among the top high schools in the United States.
