Gaithersburg, Maryland --August 9, 2000--ScienceWise.com (http://www.sciencewise.com), the B2B Workplace on the Web for science and engineering, will launch ScienceWise Europe in Belgium on September 1, 2000. The company has also increased its management team with the appointment of three new corporate officers. These actions will allow ScienceWise to expand its services to researchers throughout the European Union and continue its aggressive pursuit in knowledge management.

"Scientific research is a global activity. ScienceWise.com is committed not only to bringing research tools and funding opportunities to scientists and engineers worldwide, but also to facilitating cooperation and collaboration between the science and engineering communities of the United States and Europe," said John Rodman, president and CEO of ScienceWise.com.

As one of its first Pan-Atlantic ventures, ScienceWise.com is co-sponsoring the Conference on International Research Funding at the Manchester Conference Centre, UK, September 22-24, 2000. Other sponsors include the European Association for Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA), Society for Research Administrators (SRA) and UMIST Ventures Limited. The new office will be located just outside Brussels, within the Louvain-la-Neuve facilities of Web-diggers, a ScienceWise.com partner.

With its newly-appointed core group of officers, ScienceWise.com enhances its management team's e-commerce expertise to augment its Europe expansion. They include: James P. (Jamie) McKee, senior vice president for Electronic Commerce; Samuel G. Smith, CPA, senior vice president for Finance and Administration; and Austin P. (Phil) Montgomery, vice president for Business Development. They join an experienced team that consists of David Garver, chief technology officer and senior vice president for Information Technology; Paul R. Farrell, senior vice president for Content and Customer Service; and Marilyn T. Keyes, vice president for Corporate Marketing.

"Our success depends on our knowledge and ability. Jamie, Phil, and Sam, the newest members of our management team, bring a wealth of expertise in e-commerce, financial management and business development, effectively positioning us to meet the needs of our expanding marketplace," stated Rodman.

James P. McKee, Senior Vice President for Electronic Commerce

Jamie McKee is responsible for developing and implementing ScienceWise.com's critical e-business processes and creating and sustaining the company's competitive advantage. A mechanical engineer by training, McKee worked at IBM prior to his move to ScienceWise.com. His latest assignment was as a consultant with IBM's Business Transformation Practice, where he helped a consortium of six universities join forces to reduce their individual costs of developing a research management software application while increasing their influence to negotiate process improvements with their research sponsors. McKee also managed the start-up of a $10 million systems development project at one of the largest research universities in the U.S.

Samuel G. Smith, CPA, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration

Sam Smith serves as CFO at ScienceWise.com. His duties include the management of accounting systems and procedures, human resources management, and management of facilities operations. Smith comes to ScienceWise.com with more than 25 years experience in finance and accounting, both in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and more recently with an education and software company. He was responsible for all the financial aspects of the business as well as marketing, human resources and information technology.

Austin Phillip Montgomery, Vice President for Business Development

Phil Montgomery is responsible for developing and negotiating partnerships in three areas--web site content, membership alliances with professional organizations, and e-commerce partners. Before joining ScienceWise.com, Montgomery was the senior director of Marketing and Business Development for a wireless data communications company, and the co-founder of a business unit that provided e-business solutions for logistics and supply chain management.
