Newswise — Driving on ice and snow is easy. All it takes is a few tips and tricks from the pros. And where better to learn than Michigan Technological University's Winter Driving School? Michigan Tech is on the picturesque Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where the annual snowfall tops 200 inches in a "light snow" year.

Winter Driving School is taught every Saturday from the first weekend in February through the end of the winter driving season.

During the day-long class, participants learn valuable tips and techniques to give them confidence when driving on snowy and ice-covered roads. They can try out their new skills on rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive vehicles, courtesy of the driving school.

Started as a research project to compare rear-wheel, front-wheel and four-wheel drive under winter road conditions, the classes are taught by professional driving instructors on a safe, enclosed course at the University's winter test facility near the Houghton County (Mich.) Airport. Cost for the entire course, including time in class and behind the wheel, is only $100--less than the deductible for most collision insurance policies.
