Melody Butler, BSN, RN, CIC, an Infection Preventionist at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY, was recently featured on NBC Nightly News where she discussed the anti vaccine movement and "Nurses Who Vaccinate", (which she founded) a nurse-driven organization featuring health care professionals who provide evidence based research about immunization and critical public health resources for vaccine advocates.

If you're looking for an expert to discuss the recent measles outbreak, Melody is available and offers the following commentary:

“As we’ve learned from these recent outbreaks, measles anywhere is a threat everywhere. The current cases are a result of unvaccinated visitors and citizens traveling to areas of epidemics, and traveling or returning to the United States with the infection, and spreading the virus in areas with low immunization rates. We must be on constant vigilance for any suspected cases when caring for patients and strongly recommend patients verify and/or update their vaccination status.”

Melody currently serves as a member of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC). Good Samaritan is a memeber of Catholic Health Services, an intergrated health care system on Long Island, NY
