经过AI赋能的心电图能在测试中检测出COVID-19感染,具有37%的阳性预测值(感染者)和91%的阴性预测值(未感染者)。添加额外的正常对照受试者,以反映5%的COVID-19患病率(与真实世界人口类似)时,阴性预测值跃升至99.2%。这项研究结果发表在妙佑医疗国际学报(Mayo Clinic Proceedings)上。

COVID-19的潜伏期为10至14天,相比其他常见病毒的潜伏期要长。许多人是无症状感染者,会在不知不觉间危及他人。另外,目前的检测方法需要较长的周转时间和大量的临床资源,并且在获取方式上也存在问题。

研究人员从心电图数据中选择了经由对SARS-Co-V-2病毒所进行的基因检测而在当时获得COVID-19确诊的患者。这些数据与来自同类心电图数据中未感染COVID-19的患者的对照匹配数据进行了比对。

研究人员使用了超过26,000幅心电图来训练AI,并使用了近4,000幅其他心电图来验证其解读。最后,通过7,870幅之前没有使用过的心电图测试了AI。在每组心电图中,COVID-19的患病率都在33%左右。

为了准确反映真实世界人群,研究人员还额外添加了50,000多幅正常心电图,使COVID-19的患病率达到5%。这使得AI的阴性预测值从91%提升至99.2%。

妙佑医疗国际心血管医学部的工程师Zachi Attia博士解释,患病率是计算阳性预测值和阴性预测值的一个变量。具体而言,随着患病率的降低,阴性预测值会增加。Attia博士和Kapa博士是这项研究的协同首席作者。

Attia博士表示:“在确定任何COVID-19检测的价值时,准确性是最大的难点之一。我们不仅需要知道该检测的敏感性和特异性,还需要知道该疾病的患病率。增加额外的对照心电图数据至关重要,这是为了展示该疾病的不同患病率将会影响如何执行检测的方式,因为我们要应对的是处于不同疫情阶段的地区的患病率差异甚远。”
