WASHINGTON (April 28, 2020) — Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancers, with 1 in 5 Americans developing it by the age of 70 and representing 1% of all cancer-related deaths according to the National Cancer Institute. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and May 4 is Melanoma Monday, a day focused on raising awareness of the deadliest form of skin cancer. The George Washington University (GW) Department of Dermatology has experts available to discuss topics related to safe and effective sun protection and skin cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Adam Friedman, MD, is the director of the Supportive Oncodermatology Clinic at GW Cancer Center and interim chair of the Department of Dermatology at SMHS. He can speak on topics related to effective and safe sun protection and skin cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Vishal Patel, MD, is the director of the Cutaneous Oncology Program at GW Cancer Center and an assistant professor of dermatology at SMHS. He specializes in cutaneous oncology and Mohs micrographic surgery. Patel is available to discuss the management and treatment of skin cancer.
Joseph Zahn, MD, is an assistant professor of dermatology at SMHS. He is an expert in dermatopathology and is available to speak on skin cancer prevention and treatment.
