In the past, cardiothoracic surgeons shared their expertise by writing book chapters that were published in print every 5-10 years by commercial publishers. A diverse team of STS leaders working with digital content experts from Unbound Medicine developed a new approach to encoding and disseminating cardiothoracic surgical knowledge. After online editing and approval by an editorial board, the content is published instantaneously worldwide—to smartphone and tablet apps as well as to a full-featured website.
