University of Washington researchers have created a reactor (tube shown here) that can completely break down hard-to-destroy chemicals. At the top of the reactor, the researchers continuously inject pilot fuel, air and the chemicals they want to destroy into supercritical water. At the bottom of the reactor, the mixture is cooled down to yield both liquid and gas discharge. The whole process takes less than a minute.
