JENOPTIK Optical Systems, LLC collaborated with Google on microscopy technology to assist pathologists in detecting cancer with deep learning

JENOPTIK Optical Systems, LLC, a global leader in Optical Systems announced today that they have developed an innovative technology to bring AI to conventional microscopy through overlay of digital content directly into a commercial-off-the-shelf microscope’s field of view, in collaboration with Google researchers. Google has demonstrated modeling for tumor detection in histopathology slides for both prostate cancer and lymph nodes from breast cancer using the platform and presented their results at the Annual meeting for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in April of 2018.

Jenoptik designed and integrated the opto-mechanical technology at its Jupiter, Florida location, which was made possible by leveraging their Systems Engineering experience, optical R&D capabilities, and their portfolio of IP across a breadth of innovative applications and industries. The augmented microscope solution benefitted from their optical design expertise and a digital imaging platform Jenoptik developed over the past decade.

Jay Kumler, President of Jenoptik Optical Systems in North America, commented, "Our work with Google demonstrates our continued commitment to meeting our customers’ expectations of advancing innovations in different technologies.”

Leading equipment manufacturers around the globe rely on Jenoptik’s expertise to build and test digital projection, telecommunications equipment, semiconductor devices, mobile devices, augmented reality, industrial automation, and connected vehicles. Our advanced optical systems are helping lead the digital transformation and IoT. For additional information on Jenoptik’s capabilities, please visit www.jenoptik.us
