Newswise — For the second year, Philippe Géneréux, MD, Co-Director of the Structural Heart Program at Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center and an interventional cardiologist internationally known for his novel research, has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by the Clarivate™ Web of Science™ Group.
Dr. Géneréux is the only New Jersey-based physician-scientist to be named to this year’s list in the Clinical Medicine category. Clinical Medicine requires more highly cited papers than any other field to meet the criteria for inclusion on the Highly Cited list.
According to Web of Science, Dr. Géneréux’s publications rank in the top one percent of clinical medicine citations over the past decade by his peers and colleagues. Dr. Géneréux has been published more than 458 times in peer-reviewed cardiology journals, and has been cited nearly 15,000 times. Scientists on the list were selected based on the number of highly cited research papers they authored between 2009 and 2019.
Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are only one in 1,000.
“I am passionate about investigating new therapies, devices, and strategies that could lead to improve patient care and, ultimately, save life”, said Dr. Géneréux. “It is critical that physician researchers continue to explore new ways to treat cardiac diseases and share their results broadly. I am honored that the important work my teams and I have done has been cited by our peers in their own research and have helped advance medicine.”
“Dr. Géneréux’s enthusiasm for research and passion for achieving the best outcomes for patients is contagious, and has helped make Morristown Medical Center a destination for world-class clinical trials,” said Linda D. Gillam, MD, MPH, FACC, FASE, the Dorothy and Lloyd Huck Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at Morristown Medical Center and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line for Atlantic Health System. “As one of the top hospitals in the nation for cardiology, and with Dr. Géneréux’s guidance, we continue to answer patients’ demand forminimally invasive heart interventions and analyze them in a real-world setting.”
Dr. Géneréux has served as the primary or co-investigator on more than 30 clinical trials, many of which have changed the way interventional cardiology is practiced. A celebrated researcher since the beginning of his career, Dr. Géneréux was awarded the prestigious Thomas J. Linnemeier Spirit of Interventional Cardiology Young Investigator Award at the 2012 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, the world's premier educational meeting focusing on interventional cardiology.
In addition to his appointment at Atlantic Health System, Dr. Géneréux serves on the faculty of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, in New York City.

About the Highly Cited Researchers List
Since 2002, the Highly Cited Researchers list has identified global research scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated exceptional influence – reflected through their publication of multiple papers frequently cited by their peers during the last decade. This year’s list continues to recognize researchers whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of influence and impact, as it includes 26 Nobel laureates.
Researchers across the world eagerly anticipate the launch of the Highly Cited Researchers list each year and hundreds of universities also celebrate the inclusion of their own researchers on the list.
The data are taken from 21 broad research fields within Essential Science Indicators™, a component of InCites™. Full methodology can be found here.
