Newswise — Driving global economic recovery through innovation is drawing international attention as the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) brings the world’s innovation leaders together in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, for AURP’s most comprehensive conference ever. With over 100 speakers and a dramatically increased number of learning opportunities, the AURP 2009 Vancouver conference will be an outstanding educational opportunity for those interested in innovation.

“We know that university research parks are an integral component of local economies,” said AURP President Gregory Deason. “Now AURP brings together the world’s leaders in innovation to help drive the world’s economy in the future.”

Kicking off the largest networking event of the year is a Doha style debate that is sure to heat things up as AURP poses the question of truly economically viable approaches to building and operating a research or science park. For a global view on energy and environmental tradeoffs, AURP welcomes Dr. John Byrne, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy (CEEP), Distinguished Professor of Public Policy at the University of Delaware, and contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

For an entrepreneurial lead, Jerome Smith, MIT Venture Mentoring Service and Keith Krach, CEO in Residence, Benchmark Capital and CEO, 3Points offer their valuable perspectives on building entrepreneurial teams and giving young ventures an entrepreneurial edge.

“The international conference is designed to make connections, develop partnerships and build a network of the world’s premier innovation and research park leaders,” said Deason. “With an Olympic pace and a cutting-edge knowledge economy, Vancouver is the ideal backdrop.”

AURP, the largest association of university-related research and science parks, fosters innovation, commercialization and economic growth through university, industry and government partnerships.

The 2009 Annual Conference: Advancing Global Research Park Networks will feature information on the new rules of financing, sustainability, and building international partnerships. While in Vancouver, attendees will tour Vancouver’s Discovery Parks and Xenon Pharmaceuticals.

The Annual Conference is hosted by the University of Victoria’s Vancouver Island Technology Park and sponsored by Discovery Parks. For more information or to register, visit www.AURP.net.
