Newswise — Babson College is bringing teams of volunteers, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents, and friends, to Ghana and Rwanda this summer to teach and develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills

Babson’s Provost and Senior VP Dennis Hanno is leading the teams as part of the Babson Entrepreneurial Leadership Academies (BELA) program.

Consistent with Babson’s mission to educate entrepreneurial leaders who create great economic and social value everywhere, Babson holds one-week programs in countries throughout Africa that work with high-school students to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. The week of training ends with rocket pitch competition with the intention of allowing participants to use the skills gained throughout the learning session.

In Ghana, Dennis Hanno and his team worked with over 100 high school learners in a work intensive environment that not only provides valuable skills for the students, but an invaluable opportunity for volunteers to garner new friendships, be exposed to a new culture, and challenge themselves to work successfully with limited resources.

While the Ghana experience just ended, a second team also led by Hanno will head to Rwanda in early August. Earlier this year, the Babson Entrepreneurial Leadership Academy held a session in Uganda and there are plans for a return trip to Tanzania where an Academy was conducted in 2012.
