Blumenthal to Speak on "Presidents and Democracy" at Princeton University
Princeton, NJ -- Sidney Blumenthal, assistant to the president of the United States, will give a public lecture titled "Presidents and Democracy: An American History" at 8 p.m. on November 9 in the Helm Auditorium in McCosh Hall.
As assistant to the president, Blumenthal provides President Clinton with advice on a wide range of subjects, including politics and policy and major presidential speeches. He was a principal writer of the president's 1998 and 1999 State of the Union addresses and is the presidential liaison to Prime Minister Tony Blair of Great Britain.
Prior to joining the White House, Blumenthal was a staff writer for The New Yorker. He has also been a staff writer for The Washington Post, national political correspondent and senior editor for The New Republic and contributing editor for Vanity Fair.
Blumenthal is the author of Pledging Allegiance: The Last Campaign of the Cold War, Our Long National Daydream: A Political Pageant of the Reagan Era, The Reagan Legacy, The Rise of the Counter-Establishment: From Conservative Ideology to Political Power and The Permanent Campaign.
The lecture is the annual Willard and Margaret Thorp Lecture in American Studies, co-sponsored this year by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
