Maryland Institute College of Art features two companion exhibitions and a new piece of outdoor sculpture produced by artist-in-residence Dmitry Kaminker as part of Baltimore's Vivat! St. Petersburg celebration. Located in the Pinkard Gallery and the Mount Royal Avenue Median in front of MICA's Main Building at 1300 Mount Royal Avenue, Dmitry Kaminker: Sculptor is on-view Friday, January 31 -- Sunday, February 16. From Gulag to Glasnost: Leningrad Artists from the Dodge Collection of Soviet Nonconformist Art at the Zimmerli Art Museum runs Friday, January 31 -- Sunday, March 16 in Meyerhoff Gallery. Receptions take place on Friday, February 14 from 5 -- 8 p.m. The exhibitions were organized by the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

In the Pinkard Gallery, which is located in the Bunting Center at 1401 Mount Royal Avenue, Dmitry Kaminker: Sculptor is an exhibition of works by Dmitry Kaminker, an important contemporary sculptor from St. Petersburg, Russia. Kaminker has exhibited internationally and is known for his creation of large-scale public sculptures. During an artist residency at the College, Kaminker will produce a new piece of outdoor sculpture on the Mount Royal Avenue Median.

From Gulag to Glasnost: Leningrad Artists from the Dodge Collection of Soviet Nonconformist Art at the Zimmerli Art Museum presents significant works by 21 artists, including Evgenii Rukhin and Vladimir Ovchinniko, spanning three decades in which unofficial art flourished, beginning with Khrushchev's cultural thaw in 1956 and concluding with glasnost and Gorbachev in 1986. The exhibition takes place in the Meyerhoff Gallery in MICA's Fox Building at 1303 Mount Royal Avenue.

Dmitry Kaminker: Sculptor and From Gulag to Glasnost: Leningrad Artists from the Dodge Collection of Soviet Nonconformist Art at the Zimmerli Art Museum are part of Baltimore's Vivat! St. Petersburg celebration, a citywide arts festival commemorating the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg. From February 13 through March 2, 2003, Vivat! will present an array of Russian art, music, and culture that is sure to be one of the city's most memorable events. Maryland Institute College of Art celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2001 and has consistently been named among the nation's very top visual arts colleges.
