Does consciousness continue after death? Can spiritual healing play a role in diagnosing, treating and preventing disease? Furthermore, is it possible to address these questions from a scientific standpoint?

A group of spiritual mediums who are notable in their field will present a panel discussion this Friday, June 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the AHSC DuVal Auditorium. (Admission is $7, and $5 for students and seniors.)

The group includes author John Edwards ("One Last Time: A Psychic Medium Speaks to Those We Have Loved and Lost"); journalist and spiritual healer Diane Goldner ("Infinite Grace: Where the Worlds of Science and Spiritual Healing Meet"); and Gary Schwartz, professor of psychology, and Linda Russek, co- directors of the Human Energy Systems Laboratory and authors of "a forthcoming book, "White Crows and the Invisible Rainbow: How Scientists Discovered the Key that Connects Science and Spirituality." Schwartz also has joint appointments in neurology, psychiatry and medicine.

At the Human Energy Systems Laboratory at the UA, Schwartz and Russek are conducting research on questions about psychic healing and after-death communications. They presented their most recent paper, "Replicability of After-Death Communication," to the Society for Scientific Exploration on June 4. Schwartz says a panel of experts that bridge science, mediumship and spiritual healing will review the research, share personal experiences and consider implications for the future of science and health care.
