Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — The University of Virginia Darden School of Business and the Darden School Foundation today announced that Douglas T. Moore (MBA `80) will become president of the Darden School Alumni Board of Directors and thereby join the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees in an ex-officio role.

“We look forward to working with Doug as he takes on this leadership role for the alumni board and becomes a trustee,” said Phil Knisely, chair of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees. “His experience and knowledge of the retail industry are vast, and we look forward to the perspective and insights that he will bring to the board.”

Douglas Moore currently serves as the principal of First Street Consulting, a retail consulting firm, where he has worked since June 2012. Additionally, Moore has been a director on the Board of Lumber Liquidators since April 2006. In that capacity, he chairs the Nominating and Governance Committee and serves on the Audit Committee. Most recently, Moore served as chief merchandising and marketing officer for H.H.Gregg Inc.

Prior to February 2012, Moore served as vice president of operations for Safelite Group, a subsidiary of Belron. Prior to December 2010, Moore served as senior vice president and president of appliances for Sears Holdings Corporation. From 2007 to 2008, Moore served as senior vice president, hardlines and merchandising, for Sears, where he was the chief merchant for the appliance, lawn and garden, tools, home electronics and sporting goods businesses. Prior to joining Sears, Moore served for seventeen years as a senior executive of Circuit City Stores Inc., with his last position as executive vice president, chief merchandising officer. At Circuit City, Moore also held senior operations positions, including senior vice president and president of the western division for more than 300 retail stores.

Abbott Professor of Business Administration. “We are grateful for his past service on the alumni board and his willingness to take on this new leadership role. Moore has also held operational and consumer marketing positions at AMF Bowling Inc., A.H. Robins Company Inc. and the Carnation Company. He received his undergraduate degree and MBA from the University of Virginia.
