Art Historian Pamela Allara, will present a lecture Tuesday, March 4, 11:30 a.m. on "Images of Human Rights Portfolio and Contemporary Art in South Africa." She is co-curator of the exhibition Coexistence: Contemporary Cultural Production in South Africa, which is at the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, through June 29.

Master Printer Jan Jordaan will present a gallery lecture Sunday, April 6, 12 p.m. on Art and Moral Ownership, as part of an international print conference Making Histories: Revolution and Representation, sponsored by the Southern Graphics Print Council and Boston Printmakers.

This exhibit was conceived as a celebration of South Africa's historic adoption of a human rights document. The prints included offer a broad reflection on the complexity and richness of South Africa's changing society. The images do not reflect any particular artistic style, educational tradition or cultural background; but are a true product of diversity.

On display is the work of artists chosen by regional galleries to create prints representing each clause of South Africa's new Bill of Rights. Proceeds from the sale of these portfolios have been used to fund human rights education programs for the young people of South Africa.

A companion exhibition, Student Prints from South Africa's Artist's Proof Studio, will appear in Montserrat's Carol Schlosberg Alumni Gallery March 24 - April 10. Montserrat Asst. Prof. Rhoda Rosenberg was a visiting artist at the Artist's Proof studio, Johannesburg, South Africa, in the summer of 2002. This exhibition is a result of her residency.
