Readers of horror literature are not scary people. They just like to be scared. That's the viewpoint of Becky Spratford, librarian, Dominican University professor and author of the The Readers' Advisory Guide to Horror, 2nd ed. (ALA 2012). A reader's advisory librarian at Berwyn Public Library, Spratford shares her love of the horror genre on her blog, raforallhorror.blogspot.com, where the books she reviews run the gory gamut from blood-soaked vampire flicks to romantic zombie comedies (AKA rom-zom-coms). Through all that inky darkness shines the true appeal of horror. Focusing on the fantastical, horror offers readers an escape from the frights of real life.
