Newswise — Four University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) professors will be among the presenters during a special seminar on immigration and borders during the national meeting of the American Political Science Association.

The seminar will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Marriott Philadelphia Downtown, Liberty Ballroom, 1201 Market Street.

Irasema Coronado, Tony Kruszewski, Tony Payan and Kathy Staudt, UTEP professors and experts on border and immigration issues, will present sessions on topics from border history to cross-border cooperation. The four were also co-organizers of the event.

The seminar will be led by Christine Thurlow Brenner, an assistant professor of public policy at Rutgers-Camden. In addition to the presentations by the UTEP professors, faculty from five other institutions will lead courses that discuss the history of borders and how borders historically lead to conflict and war, as well as the immigration and labor challenges present at borders.

The presenters will offer effective approaches to teaching border theories and will provide attendees with greater insight into the border issues dominating national and local headlines.
