Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — On Friday, 15 November 2013, University of Virginia Darden School of Business Professor R. Edward Freeman will speak at Charlottesville’s first TEDx event — "TEDxCharlottesville - The Difference That Makes a Difference." The talk will take place at the Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville.

Freeman, University Professor and Elis and Signe Olsson Professor of Business Administration, is best known for his work on stakeholder management and business ethics. This September he will teach the massive open online course, or MOOC, “New Models of Business in Society.” A philosopher by training, for decades Freeman has held the international distinction as one of the top thinkers in business ethics.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved in business. Whether it’s being driven by technology or entrepreneurship, this is a time for innovation in the world,” said Freeman. “My talk will explain how business and business people can make a difference in the world. It’s time for a new story about business as a difference maker. There are many businesspeople, from for profit executives to social entrepreneurs, who are trying to create institutions that make our world better.”

With more than 20 speakers and entertainers, the Charlottesville TEDx event aims to share world-changing ideas with an engaged audience. Speakers include experts from the fields of business, medicine, education, athletics, arts and science. For detailed biographies visit the TEDxCharlottesville speaker page.
