Ray Klump, Ph.D., Lewis University Professor and Chair of Mathematics and Computer Science as well as Director of Master of Science in Information Security

Recent cyber attacks are causing concerns over the safety of the U.S. utility system. Dr. Ray Klump is an expert on securing the smart grid.

He said, "An executive order issued by President Obama required that some means be set up for utilities to share information on intrusions and cyber attacks in real time. Although the sharing is voluntary, this is a good first step, because at least will be a system set up for sharing such information."

In a recent paper entitled "Distributed IP Watchlist Generation for Intrusion Detection in the Electrical Smart Grid," which appeared as a chapter in the book Critical Infrastructure Protection IV, Klump and a Lewis alumnus and cyber security expert from Argonne, Matt Kwiatkowski, proposed using something like Argonne's Federated model for sharing cyber intrusion data among national labs.
