Newswise — The Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University, in tandem with its official opening and dedication on the SU campus, has announced its inaugural advisory board.

Launched in June 2011 by founding members SU and JPMorgan Chase & Co., the IVMF is built on the University’s longstanding commitment to the nation’s veterans and service members and is the first national center in higher education focused on the social, economic, education and policy issues impacting veterans and military families post-service.

Members of the IVMF Advisory Board come from industry, higher education and the veteran and military community. They provide advice and counsel to institute leadership and confer insight and input focused on the institute’s strategic objectives and planning process. The board also helps to assess the impact of IVMF programs. SU alumnus Steven Barnes, managing director at Bain Capital, and JPMorgan Chase & Co. CAO Frank Bisignano serve as co-chairmen.

“I am honored to serve as co-chair of IVMF’s inaugural advisory board, and to have the opportunity to work with the distinguished and accomplished group of individuals that has been assembled,” says Barnes. “We are all excited by the significant impact that the institute’s research, awareness-building and programs can have in continuing SU’s historic commitment to veterans and military families.”

The IVMF Advisory Board is non-fiduciary. Inaugural members are:
