Newswise — LOS ANGELES – “Discovering China through Please Vote for Me” is the newest film-driven curriculum guide released by the Norman Lear Center's Journeys in Film project in global education. Journeys in Film’s multi-disciplinary lesson plans are based on rich, award-winning films from around the world and are an engaging way for students to learn about different cultures and countries while meeting educational standards in all subjects.

Made as part of the "Why Democracy?" film project, Please Vote for Me is a charming and informative look into the first democratic election for class monitor in an elementary school in China. The film and lesson plans are particularly relevant to the current election climate in the U.S. today. Other film-based teaching guides in this series are based on features from South Korea, South Africa, India, Tibet, Iran and the Maori of New Zealand. Discovering China through Please Vote for Me was developed with the support of a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Journeys in Film has partnered with Teachers Without Borders to distribute the curriculum guide to over 16,000 teachers worldwide.
