Newswise — New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) will honor its Class of 2006 when the medical school hosts its 26th annual hooding ceremony on Monday, May 22, 2006, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Tilles Center in Old Brookville, N.Y.

Each student will be conferred their doctoral degrees by NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., at the college's 45th annual commencement at it's Old Westbury, N.Y., campus on Sunday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m. Student speaker and president of the fourth-year class, Tuyet-Nga Vu, of Baltimore, M.D., will address the graduating class of 253 students " 135 women and 118 men.

Matthew Schure, Ph.D., president and CEO of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and former NYIT president and CEO, will deliver the keynote address. Schure was a member of NYCOM's Board of Governors from 1981-2000. Gulf War hero Richard Jadick, D.O., has been invited to be the special guest alumni speaker. Jadick, a 1997 NYCOM graduate, was recently awarded a Bronze Star in January with a combat V for valor for saving the lives of seven badly injured Marines in Iraq. Currently, he is a urology resident at the Medical College of Georgia and Augusta Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
