Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell will be the commencement speaker at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's 112th commencement on June 1, 2003, 2:30 pm. Commencement will be held at Verizon Hall, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Broad Steet, Philadelphia, PA.

Mr. Rendell served as mayor of Philadelphia from 1992 through 1999. Among his many accomplishments as mayor, Mr. Rendell eliminated a $250 million deficit, reduced business and income taxes for five consecutive years and implemented new revenue-generating initiatives.

Mr. Rendell served as the General Chair of the Democratic National Committee during the 2000 Presidential Election. During his tenure as Chairman, the Democratic Party picked up seats in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, won back control of the Governors' Offices and came within a hanging chad of retaining control of the White House.

Prior to being elected governor, Mr. Rendell was a partner at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersol, LLP. He also taught two goverment and politics courses at the University of Pennsylvania and remains active in the community through membership on a variety of boards. Mr. Rendell is a graduate of the University of Pennyslvania and Villanova Law School.

PCOM offers the doctor of osteopathic medicine degree and graduate programs in psychology, physician assistant studies, forensic medicine, organizational development and leadership, and biomedical sciences.
