Newswise — With more than 25 years of writing experience and 13 years as senior writer and Asia Edition Editor at BusinessWeek in New York, Pete Engardio will speak to students and their families at Central Michigan University’s spring commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place May 8 at 2 p.m. in Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

Now working as a freelance writer and editor traveling the world conducting research, Engardio’s work focuses on global competitiveness issues for periodicals, foundations and think tanks.

To many, Engardio is a guiding force in political literature. As an Asia correspondent for BusinessWeek, his research and articles on economic, business and political issues in China, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and India have given rise to Congressional discussions and debates.

Engardio, a CMU alumnus who majored in political science and minored in journalism, has received numerous awards, including the Institute on Political Journalism award, three Overseas Press Club awards and a National Magazine Award finalist.

Through all his successes, he credits CMU for introducing and reinforcing the work ethic needed to thrive in his field.

“At Central I found a quality of teaching and academic standards that prepared me very well in succeeding in journalism,” Engardio said. “My professors really pushed for excellence and only accepted the best work. I have been trained to compete with students from the best universities in the nation through my education at CMU.”
