Newswise — As the nation searches for ways to "begin again the work of remaking America," research, science and tech parks continue to play a vital role in recovery efforts.

Job creation is the key driver of recovery, and parks play a fundamental role in creating jobs in the knowledge economy. Over 750,000 jobs have been created in North America through research park activities, according to recent reports.

"Research parks are key drivers of regional development," said J. Michael Bowman, Chairman & President, Delaware Technology Park. "Today, research parks spur business startups, retention and expansion with a focus on providing crucial services."

In that regard, the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) will host its annual Washington Summit meeting "The Gathered Storm: Navigating the Turbulent Times" on Thursday, February 26, 2009.

Keynote speakers include: Gerald S. J. Cassidy, Founder and Executive Chairman of Cassidy & Associates, a premier Washington government relations firm; Dr. Charles Wessner, Director, Technology and Innovation, The National Research Council of The National Academy of Sciences; Dr. Joseph A. Chapman, President of North Dakota State University and Dr. Patrick T. Harker, President of University of Delaware.

Invited speakers include: U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC), U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD) and U.S. Senator Byron L. Dorgan (D-ND).
