Newswise — Donald L. Trump, MD, FACP, President & CEO of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), has been elected to membership in the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars. He was inducted into the Society on Wednesday, May 20, and recognized during commencement exercises on May 21 in Baltimore, MD.

The highly prestigious, highly selective Society of Scholars, created by the Johns Hopkins University in 1967, is the first of its kind in the nation − honoring distinguished former postdoctoral fellows and junior or visiting faculty of the University who have gained marked distinction in their fields.

Dr. Trump was recognized for his distinguished academic career, including leadership roles at several premier cancer centers as well as his current position as President and CEO of RPCI. He is acknowledged as a national and international authority in the treatment of prostate cancer and other genitourinary cancers and in particular his major contributions to the field of new anticancer drug development. The Society continued by adding that Dr. Trump "has added significantly to our understanding of the role of vitamin D in the pathogenesis and treatment of cancer."

A 1970 graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. Trump completed an internship and residency training in medicine and a fellowship in oncology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1970 to 1974, served as chief resident in internal medicine from 1974 to 1975 and was a member of the cancer center faculty from 1977 to 1981.

Dr. Trump was elected by the Committee of the Johns Hopkins Society ofScholars, whose members elect a limited number of candidates each year fromnominations by the academic divisions having postdoctoral programs. The 2009induction of 15 new members brings to 536 the total number of scholars inthe Society.
