Newswise — Some of the nation's most successful actors from stage and screen will be performing this weekend as the School of Theatre at Florida State University presents a staged reading of "The History of Cardenio," an unfinished play believed to have been co-written by William Shakespeare. The one-night-only performance will be:

Guest artists who will be in attendance for the media availability session and participating in Sunday's staged reading include the following:

"¢ Director Joe Cacaci. Cacaci has been an award-winning writer, director and producer since 1978. He was the founding artistic director of East Coast Arts; producing director of The Playwrights Kitchen Ensemble in Los Angeles from 1993 to the present; and recently directed the world premiere of Victor Bumbalo's "Questra," featuring Wendie Malick, Dorian Harwood and Dan Lauria, at the Court Theatre in Los Angeles. Cacaci also co-created the CBS series "The Trials of Rosie O'Neill" and was executive producer of Showtime's "The Hoop Life" and CBS' "The Education of Max Bickford."

"¢ Jay Thomas ("The Jay Thomas Show" on Sirius Radio; "Murphy Brown," for which he won two Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Jerry Gold; "Cheers" ; "Mork and Mindy" ; "Love & War" ; "Mr. Holland's Opus" ), who will portray Sancho.

"¢ Orson Bean ("Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" ; "To Tell the Truth" ; "The Match Game" ; "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" ; and Broadway performances in "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?," "Subways Are for Sleeping" and "Never Too Late" ) as Don Quixote.

"¢ H. Richard Greene ("Shark" ; "Cold Case" ; "According to Jim" ; "Boston Legal" ; "The West Wing" ; "Ally McBeal" ; "Early Edition" ; "Matlock" ; "The Wonder Years" ), who will portray Señor Bernardo.

"¢ Alley Mills (Norma Arnold in "The Wonder Years" ; "The Bold and the Beautiful" ; "Yes, Dear" ; "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" ; "Moonlighting" ), who will narrate and provide stage directions.

"¢ Brian Smiar ("Rescue Me" ; "Hack" ; "Ed" ; "Cheers" ; "Frasier" ; "The Education of Max Bickford" ; "Third Watch" ; "Law & Order" ), who will portray Señor Camillo.

"¢ Jim Frangione ("The Unit" ; "Transamerica" ; "Heist" ; "Spartan" ; "State and Main" ; and "American Buffalo" at the Berkshire Theater Festival), who will portray Master Nicholas, a friar and master of the flocks.

"¢Cameron Jackson, who serves as director of the FSU School of Theatre.Also in attendance will be Gary Taylor, an FSU professor of English. Taylor reconstructed "The History of Cardenio," which had been lost for nearly two centuries, from portions of various manuscripts he was able to locate. The play, written in or around 1612, is based on characters from "Don Quixote."

In "Cardenio," Don Ferdinando forces marriage on his friend Cardenio's beloved Lucinda, betraying both Cardenio and his own lover, Violante. Brokenhearted, Violante and Cardenio plot to be reunited with their true loves.

The visiting artists will be rehearsing and working side by side with current School of Theatre students, faculty and alumni, including recent BFA graduates Adam Thompson and Chloe Ditzel.
