Newswise — The Secure World Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Victoria A. Samson as the organization's Director of Washington, D.C. Operations. Samson will be responsible for engaging Congressional staffers and agency officials on matters related to space security and space governance.

Samson comes to Secure World Foundation (SWF) with a strong background in space security matters and analytical skills in missile defense, nuclear reductions and emerging weapons technologies.

Prior to her new SWF staff position in Washington, D.C., Samson served as a Senior Analyst with the Center for Defense Information, engaging in that work since November 2001.

"We are delighted that Ms. Samson has joined SWF. Drawing upon her expertise in missile defense, space weapons, and nuclear weapons issues, she will be a valuable asset in furthering our goals and objectives," said Dr. Ray Williamson, SWF's Executive Director.

A noted author, contributor to think-tank assessments, as well as conference presenter on missile and space security, Samson has an M.A. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She also holds a B.A. in political science with a specialization in international relations from University of California at Los Angeles.

"I look forward to raising Secure World Foundation's visibility in Washington, D.C. by becoming an active participant in and contributor to the space community," Samson said. "In reaching out to government officials, industry representatives, and knowledgeable members of the Non-Governmental Organization community, I intend to help SWF achieve its goal of ensuring secure access to and sustainable use of space," she said.

Secure World Foundation, headquartered in Superior, Colorado, is a private operating foundation dedicated to the secure and sustainable use of space for the benefit of Earth and all its peoples.

SWF engages with academics, policy makers, scientists and advocates in the space and international affairs communities to support steps that strengthen global space security. It promotes the development of cooperative and effective use of space for the protection of Earth's environment and human security.

The Foundation acts as a research body, convener and facilitator to advocate for key space security and other space related topics and to examine their influence on governance and international development.
