Newswise — The Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) is hosting “Beyond Bones: Understanding the Benefits of Dairy and Overcoming Barriers to Dairy Consumption,” a live webinar on Thursday, August 22 from 11:00 am – 12:00 p.m. EDT. The webinar is sponsored by St. Louis District Dairy Council. This webinar reviews the importance of dairy in relation to total diet quality and reduction of chronic disease, and addresses barriers and solutions to achieving adequate dairy consumption. Presenting during the webinar are Roberta L. Duyff, MS, RD, FADA, CFCS, Duyff Associates and Robert Heaney, MD, Creighton University School of Medicine. Despite the recommendation of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans to consume three servings per day, dairy intake remains inadequate. Insufficient health professional awareness of the total benefits of dairy and the misunderstanding of the consequences of dairy avoidance contribute to this problem. During the webinar the speakers will describe the role of adequate dairy intake in total diet quality, discuss the unintended consequences of dairy avoidance, compare the nutrition profiles of alternative non-dairy beverages to dairy beverages and identify consumer behaviors and potential strategies to help patients and consumers follow dietary guidelines’ recommendations for dairy intake.

This webinar is free for members of SNEB. Register online at http://www.sneb.org/events/webinars.html. The cost for non-member attendees is $25 but the first 200 non-members to register will attend as guests of St. Louis District Dairy Council.
