Health People’s Kids-Helping-Kids Dance Based on Viral Video with 60s Pop Icon Lesley Gore

WHO & WHAT:South Bronx kids, ages 5 to 20, who are part of Health People’s Kids-Helping-Kids program, in a live dance performance of their rap “Pull Your Pants Up.”

The Pull Your Pants Up dance is based on the viral YouTube video and song produced by 60s singing sensation Lesley Gore (“It’s My Party,” “You Don’t Own Me”). The rap, written by the kids, aims to empower and educate other kids to reach higher and build their own lives even through their often difficult situations of family breakup, addiction, AIDS, illness and foster care. To become what they are – youth with a future, and not kids with their pants sagging on the ground.

Kids-Helping-Kids will debut the dance -- and rap the song—in a live performance to celebrate Bronx Week 2013.

The performance is also a sneak peek preview of their appearance at the Opening Game of the New York Liberty basketball season on May 31 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Health People's Kids-Helping-Kids is a unique Bronx mentoring program where older kids are mentors for younger kids, especially those with sick or missing parents. They are thrilled to bring their positive message from the Bronx to kids everywhere. WHEN:Saturday, May 18, 20131:00 p.m.
