The first Democratic Party debate is tomorrow (Oct. 13) and two political rhetoric experts at Texas A&M University will be available for pre- and post-debate analysis. Jennifer Mercieca, professor of communication, is an historian of American political discourse, especially discourses about citizenship, democracy and the presidency. She is the author of Founding Fictions and co-editor of The Rhetoric of Heroic Expectations: Establishing the Obama Presidency. Her essays have appeared in scholarly journals such as Rhetoric & Public Affairs, The Quarterly Journal of Speech, and Presidential Studies Quarterly.

And Kirby Goidel, professor of communication and fellow in Texas A&M’s Public Policy Research Institute, specializes in political participation, elections and campaign finance, public opinion, and the media and politics. He is the author of three books, the editor of Political Polling in the Digital Age and over 30 journal articles.
