Newswise — The University of Baltimore's undergraduate program in real estate and economic development—the only one of its kind in Maryland and specializing in preparing students for careers in real estate investment, property appraisal, management, commercial lending, and a host of other in-demand jobs in the real estate profession—will collaborate with the Chicago-based Institute of Real Estate Management to advance the profession and encourage interest in it through educational and professional development opportunities.
A memorandum of understanding has been approved by the University and the institute, and plans are underway to develop and offer dedicated programming, events and so on.
UB will utilize the institute’s textbooks and resource materials in its teaching in the program. IREM will recognize the University of Baltimore's Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and Economic Development degree as one that fulfills the specified educational requirements for the institute's Certified Property Manager designation.
Deborah A. Ford, director of the University of Baltimore's real estate program, will serve on IREM's 2014 national Student and Academic Outreach Advisory Board. Ford will assist the board in identifying strategies and tactics that the institute can use to engage colleges, universities and students.
IREM currently has collaborative agreements and relationships with the real estate degree programs at Georgetown University, St. Augustine's University, Virginia Tech, Ball State University, the University of Central Florida, California State University-Fullerton, Cornell University, and the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
