Newswise — Four new members were recently elected to serve on the board of trustees of University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. The responsibilities of the University's board include approving the University's strategic plans and ensuring their consistency with the institution's mission and goals. Dr. Frank Baldino, Jr.; Daniel K. Fitzpatrick; and Dr. Donald J. M. Phillips will serve as members at-large, while Dominic A. Marasco P'96 is the alumni representative.
Frank Baldino, Jr., PhD, is chairman and CEO of Cephalon, Inc., which he founded in 1987 and grew from a privately held company to one of the top 10 public biotechnology companies in the U.S. Dr. Baldino has nearly two decades of scientific experience in neurobiology, molecular biology, and electrophysiology, and has authored more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, such as, Nature, Journal of Neuroscience Research, and Brain Research.
Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, MBA, CPA, is Citizens Bank's president and CEO for eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. A veteran of 20 years of commercial banking in the Philadelphia area, he also serves on Citizens Financial Group's Executive Leadership Group, the company's senior leadership team. Fitzpatrick formerly was president at Bank of America, Pennsylvania and B of A's Market Executive for Commercial Banking for Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. Before joining Bank of America in 2003, he held senior leadership positions with PNC Bank, PNC Capital Markets, and CoreStates Bank in Philadelphia.
Donald J. M. Phillips BSc'70, PharmD'73 is principal and CEO of the privately held healthcare communications company Vox Medica Holdings, Inc., an independent company founded in 1953. For 13 years Dr. Phillips practiced as a clinical pharmacist, educator and administrator at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, and the former Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now University of the Sciences) where he received his degrees. Dr. Phillips joined Vox Medica Holdings, Inc. in 1986 and was appointed CEO in 2003. He returns to the board after a one-year absence and had served in various capacities since 1996.
Dominic A. Marasco P'96, RPh, serves as a vice president of Commercial Alliances for Quintiles Commercial/Innovex, a Quintiles Transnational Company. Marasco has over 15 years of extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and healthcare industry overall. He has held various leadership positions in business development (U.S. and Global), corporate development, clinical field force operations and alliance management. Prior to joining Innovex, Marasco was the founder and CEO of Pharmaceutical Health Management Company, Inc., a time management, data warehousing, and clinical education company. He is a 1996 graduate of the University's Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
