Newswise — Fifty college students from India, thanks to the efforts of Nebraska-based businessman Vin Gupta, will spend a week in Omaha this spring taking courses in International Marketing and Strategy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and then cap their visit by meeting with Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway.

"This will be a special day in their lives. These Indian students, who have only heard of this legendary investor and business leader, will now have a chance to see him in person and ask him questions," said Gupta, infoUSA Inc. chairman and CEO. The students, along with 10 IIT faculty members, will arrive on May 7. The meeting with Buffett is set for May 12.

All in the group are MBA students enrolled in the Vinod Gupta School of Management at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, which entered into a sibling university agreement with UNO late last year. Gupta, a 1967 IIT Kharagpur alumnus, created both the IIT Foundation and the Vinod Gupta School of Management at IIT Kharagpur.

For the seven IIT campuses in India, over 200,000 applicants each year take the entrance exam to fill just 3,000 entry spots. Last April, in an unprecedented gesture of goodwill toward a foreign university, the U.S. Congress approved a house resolution honoring the IITs and their alumni for "significant contributions to the American society in every profession and discipline." IIT Kharagpur, founded in 1951, is the oldest IIT.

"UNO has a rich sibling university history," said Nancy Belck, UNO chancellor. "Vin, however, has put something together that is unique. We are honored to host these students and know that more exchanges are in our future."
