Newswise — University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) on behalf of its Advanced Concepts Institute (ACI) has announced a formal relationship with Ascend Media Healthcare to produce the 22nd edition of "Remington: The Science and Practice of Pharmacy." The relationship allows USP to expand in the pharmacy market in order to better reach students, educators, and professional sectors while providing Ascend access to the extensive pharmaceutical, science, and health care resources and expertise that USP can offer.

"The field of pharmacy continues to change rapidly. By initializing this formal relationship with Ascend, we will be able to take full advantage of new methods available for the delivery of content and text for 'Remington,'" said Shawn P. Curtin, executive director of ACI and assistant dean of finance and entrepreneurial affairs for Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. "The next edition of 'Remington' will be developed maximizing the latest technology available to deliver content that is more timely, accessible, and searchable. Ascend is the perfect match as a leader in the health care publishing market to accomplish this."

Currently in its 21st edition, "Remington" covers all aspects of the science and practice of pharmacy and is used for pharmaceutics, therapeutics, and pharmacy practice courses in primary curricula. Since the first edition was published, pharmacists have used "Remington" as a comprehensive one-stop reference. This definitive resource has provided a comprehensive source of knowledge about the science and practice of pharmacy since it was first published in 1886 by Joseph Price Remington, professor and later dean at the University. After his death, the copyright to this text was assigned to the University by the heirs of Professor Remington. "Remington" is now widely recognized as being both practice-oriented while maintaining its traditionally reliable coverage of scientific aspects of pharmacy.

As the publisher of "Pharmacy Times"®, the leading publication serving today's pharmacist, Ascend is uniquely qualified to reach the target marketplace. Continuously published since 1897, this monthly publication and corresponding website brings practical information to the entire universe of all pharmacy settings, including the retail, hospital, and long-term care settings.

"By aligning with USP, the oldest pharmacy school in the country, we can create a unique opportunity to collectively reach this important market sector in the health care system," said Will Passano, President of Ascend Media's Healthcare Division, located in Princeton, N.J. "The pharmacist is the most accessible point of care in the entire health care system. This new relationship between USP and Ascend Media Healthcare places a renewed emphasis on the important role today's pharmacist plays in delivering quality health care."
