The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) recently announced Jan Clark as the director for Government and Community Affairs.

Before coming to USU, Ms. Clark worked for the Dewitt Health Care Network at Fort Belvoir, Va., as the public affairs officer for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and Integration and was also the chairperson for the Integration Communication Committee for the National Capital Region on BRAC and Integration.

She has held numerous positions ranging from public affairs officer to marketing specialist to health benefits advisor. In her new position with USU she will work closely with Carol Scheman, the Vice President for External Affairs. Initially, Ms. Clark will focus on building and maintaining strong working relationships with members of the university's local community. She will serve as the liaison between the university and the general public as well as elected and appointed officials, other neighboring federal agencies, community and business leaders to promote improved collaborations and communications.

Ms. Clark is a native of Leavenworth, Kan., and has been in federal service for 28 years spending most of her career working in military hospitals.

Located on the grounds of Bethesda's National Naval Medical Center and across from the National Institutes of Health, USU is the nation's federal school of medicine and graduate school of nursing. Students are active-duty uniformed officers in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Public Health Service, who are being educated to deal with wartime casualties, national disasters, emerging infectious diseases, and other public health emergencies.
