Newswise — Three world renowned experts in the area of nuclear nonproliferation sat down with former CBS anchor Dan Rather on April 11 for a frank and lively discussion on nuclear disarmament issues and global politics at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.

The Symposium on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Global Politics, moderated by Rather, was the capstone event in a year-long commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Glassboro Summit between President Lyndon Johnson and Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin. The summit was held on Rowan's campus in June of 1967.

Video footage and photos from the symposium are available for viewing on the University's web site at http://www.rowan.edu/hollybush.

Symposium panelists included: Joseph Cirincione, president of the Ploughshares Fund; Rose Gottemoeller, Moscow Center director, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and William Potter, director of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies and Sam Nunn and Richard Lugar Professor of Nonproliferation Studies, Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Rather, who covered the summit for CBS in 1967, returned to Glassboro to engage Cirincione, Gottemoeller and Potter in conversation that included, among other topics, discussion regarding the future of nuclear nonproliferation, emerging nuclear nations, such as China, and the impact and legacy of the summit.

Rowan's web site also includes archival footage of the summit, interviews with South Jerseyans who remember the summit, and video of past lectures and events in the Hollybush Lecture Series.
