With Open Arms: How Colleges Are Leading the Way to Help Those with Disabilities

Attitudes and treatment toward people with disabilities has changed profoundly in the past few decades. University of Louisville's Louis D. Brandeis School of Law professosr Laura Rothstein has studied those changes and been at the forefront of pushing for policies that ensure justice for everyone. And, she notes that higher education has played an important role in bringing about those positive changes.
Rothstein was recently awarded the William A. Kaplin Award for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy Scholarship at at Stetson University. She has written 14 books and dozens of book chapters/articles on disability law and chaired the AALS Special Committee on Disability Issues from 1988-1990. Rothstein also has worked to promote racial diversity within legal education and lectured frequently on that topic.
