Newswise — Bloomberg Businessweek released today its 2014 Ranking of Best Undergraduate Business Schools. The Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University jumped 17 spots to No. 55.
“Our significant rise in the rankings is certainly good news and we’re excited about that,” says Kenneth Kavajecz, dean of the Whitman School. “We are equally excited about the opportunity this provides for us to examine and improve upon the partnerships we have and cherish with our students and corporate recruiters. We are going to continue to work hard to bring in great students, give them a transformational experience and create job opportunities for them.”
The rankings are based on five components: student assessment (30 percent), academic quality metrics (30 percent), employer opinion (20 percent), median starting salary (10 percent), and a "feeder school" score (10 percent), which reflects how many students undergrad programs send to top MBA programs. The academic quality metrics include average SAT score, average class size, student/faculty ratio, percentage of students with business-related internships, and average number of hours students spend on coursework per week. The student survey captures student assessments of teaching quality, school facilities, career services, and other factors. The employer survey measures employers' perceptions of student quality at schools where they hire undergraduates.
Whitman’s improvement in the ranking can be attributed to higher employer survey scores, an increase in median salary, and improvements in the academic quality measure. To view the full rankings, visit businessweek.com/2014undergradrankings.
