Randy Rogan, a Wake Forest University communication professor, is an international expert and leading researcher in both international and domestic terrorism. Rogan’s analysis of written documents in 1996 assisted in the investigation that resulted in the arrest of the Unabomber. He is available to talk about the Boston bombing's connections to other international acts of terror in the U.S. and the growth of al-Queda in Eastern Europe.

Rogan says:

“If reports prove true that the Boston bombing is an international act with notable al-Queda connections, the leader having fought with Bin Laden in Afghanistan, we have supporting evidence that al-Queda has been growing more and more active in the Balkans and East Eurpoean theatre.

The concern we now face is the ease of mobility of Eastern European persons among Western populations. These groups have been carrying out attacks mostly in Eastern Europe since the collapse of USSR. They were responsible for the Belsan school attack in 2004, the Moscow theatre attack and hostage taking in 2002, and two female suicide bombers in a Moscow train station.

The connection between the Boston bombing and the Mumbai attacks is if the Boston tragedy were planned and carried out by an international entity. Mumbai was more about killing and targeting Jews and tourists. The Boston bombing seems to be about killing and maiming at a 'low scale' international event.”
