Newswise — (October 26, 2011: Toronto) On Wednesday, October 26, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation launched its 11th annual Doves of Hope campaign. The media conference, held in the Max Tanenbaum Rooftop Garden on the 16th floor of The Princess Margaret, included the flourish of 100 live doves, released to signify hope for cancer patients.

The Doves of Hope offers a unique opportunity to honour someone special in a visible, tangible way, at the same time as supporting The Princess Margaret. Supporters are invited to make a donation and then dedicate a paper or virtual dove, which will then be displayed in the main lobby of The Princess Margaret through the end of the year. Virtual doves will also reside on the website: www.dovesofhope.ca.

This important annual tradition gives much-needed support, encouragement and hope to all those in the hospital -- patients and staff -- particularly during the holiday season. More than $1 million was raised through Doves of Hope in 2010. Funds raised from the campaign are directed to the highest priorities at The Princess Margaret. All donations to the Doves of Hope contribute to lifesaving breakthroughs and new treatments, and help ensure the highest standards of care at one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world, The Princess Margaret. Our vision is to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime.

The Doves of Hope campaign has wide appeal and will be marked with a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, December 14, although doves will continue to be added to the display well beyond this date and donations and dedications are encouraged and accepted beyond this date as well.
