Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education rating puts ACOEM in the highest level of ACCME-accredited medical education providers

Newswise — The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) has been awarded status, with special distinction, as an accredited provider of Continuing Medical Education (CME) by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

After a comprehensive survey of ACOEM’s educational activities, the ACCME gave ACOEM its Accreditation with Commendation designation, which will be in place through 2018. Accreditation with Commendation is the highest level of accreditation recognized by the ACCME.

“ACCME accreditation is an indication to the medical community and the public that ACOEM provides physicians with highest level of quality in its educational offerings, stressing relevant, effective, practice-based content that supports U. S. health care quality improvement,” said ACOEM Executive Director Barry Eisenberg, CAE.

The ACCME employs a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations. These organizations include the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards.

In order to receive Accreditation with Commendation, ACOEM demonstrated compliance with all 22 of ACCME’s Accreditation Criteria through regular reporting and documentation of performance. Only approximately 21 percent of ACCME-accredited providers have achieved Accreditation with Commendation.

ACOEM delivers more than 70 CME activities each year including live events, distance learning, enduring materials and Journal CME, reaching an average of more than 3,000 physicians annually.
