Advance News Media Registration Closing for American Chemical Society National Meeting

Newswise — WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2013 — Advance news media registration for onsite coverage of the American Chemical Society’s (ACS’) 246^th National Meeting & Exposition, Sept. 8-12, 2013, in Indianapolis remains open for two more weeks. After Aug. 30, journalists must register onsite in the ACS Press Center, Room 211, of the Indiana Convention Center.

Journalists covering the meeting from their home bases will have advance access to a package of embargoed press releases and a press conference schedule that goes live Aug. 26 on embargoed sites on EurekAlert! and Newswise. Journalists without access to those sites should contact the ACS Office of Public Affairs for further information. Press conferences will be available online in ACS’ popular “Live Chat” format, facilitating offsite coverage for journalists who cannot attend in person.

Almost 7,000 presentations on new discoveries in science and other topics are on the meeting agenda. They span science’s horizons from astronomy to zoology, offering print, broadcast and online journalists a wide range of spot news and feature opportunities. The topics include energy, the environment, food and nutrition, medicine, health and other fields where chemistry plays a central role. Some of those presentations will tie in with the meeting’s theme, “Chemistry in Motion.”

The theme presentations will spotlight today’s top research and future technologies likely to change the transportation industry this century. Topics range from biofuels and alternative energy to lightweight materials and new ways of cutting the effects of friction, which affects fuel economy.

In conjunction with the meeting theme, the ACS Office of Public Affairs is offering journalists registered for the ACS Press Center complimentary tickets to a special event that involves personal experiences with motion. Details appear below. The ACS Office of Public Affairs will operate a press center in the convention center. It will include a press conference room and a news media workroom fully staffed to assist in arranging interviews. The press center will have wireless Internet access, telephones, computers, photocopy and fax services, and refreshments.

The special event is a track lap in an INDY 500 pace car on the Indiana Motor Speedway 500 oval track with a professional race car driver, including a picture afterwards with an INDY 500 race car. To request tickets, email [email protected] with the subject line “INDY Racing Tickets.”
