Newswise — Highlighting new technology in thermal spray for the aerospace industry, the ASM Thermal Spray Society will hold an Aerospace Coatings Symposium on Oct. 15-16 at the Sheraton Hotel at Bradley International Airport, near Hartford, Connecticut.

The symposium will bring together professional technical, commercial and academic decision makers of surface engineering and thermal spray solutions throughout the aerospace coatings supply chain, according to organizers Richard Bajan, BASF Catalysts LLC, and Mitchell Dorfman, Sulzer Metco (US) Inc. These decision makers include materials and equipment suppliers, coating applicators, system integrators, engine manufacturers, airlines, and service providers.

This two-day symposium features invited presentations by members of the aerospace supply chain, including the airlines, engine manufacturers, applicators of thermal spray coatings, materials and equipment suppliers, and research organizations. Two tracks are scheduled to address specific interests:

A scientific/engineering focus will cover new technology trends, existing and future coating application requirements, and a technical discussion on case studies and applications (including wear, oxidation, hot corrosion, heat barriers, general wear, and part restoration).

A focus geared to applicators, technicians, quality, EH&S personnel, and process engineers will cover environmental health, safety issues, testing and characterization, quality and process improvements, pre- and post-processing, and metallography.

On October 13-14, TSS will sponsor a two-day educational short course on Materials and Processes for High Temperature Gas Turbine Components. Dr. Donald Boone, President of BWD Turbines, Ltd., will cover thermal spray and other highly important surface modification processes that are critical to the aerospace industry.
