Anticipating event needs, Dr. Rubin, and the team from Kaiser Permanente and the Special Olympics World Games Organizing Committee LA2015, created a comprehensive medical care plan which includes training, written protocols and screening guidelines, all to be implemented with the assistance of local police, fire departments and EMS agencies that will be on hand to provide emergency care at designated partner hospitals.
Prior to his involvement with the Special Olympics World Games, Dr. Rubin provided medical coverage for the Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games, which included several hundred international athletes in attendance.
Dr. Rubin is the editor for the Sideline and Event Management section of the Current Sports Medicine Report and creator of the Sideline Trauma and Event Medicine (S.T.E.M.) course for sports medicine providers. He currently practices family and sports medicine at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, CA, where he is Program Director for the Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. He also serves as Team Physician at Patriot High School and the University of California, Riverside.
In addition to his work in sports medicine, Dr. Rubin is the Regional Coordinator for Disaster Preparedness and the Regional Chair of Sports Medicine for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group.
He helped found and has served as the Commander for the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Medical Reserve Corp.

AMSSM is a multi-disciplinary organization of 2,700+ sports medicine physicians dedicated to education, research, advocacy and the care of athletes of all ages. The majority of AMSSM members are primary care physicians with fellowship training and added qualification in sports medicine who then combine their practice of sports medicine with their primary specialty. AMSSM includes members who specialize solely in non-surgical sports medicine and serve as team physicians at the youth level, NCAA, NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, MLS and NHL, as well as with Olympic teams.
