Measuring Quality, Outcomes, and Cost of Care Using Large Databases

Articles generated from the Sixth Regenstrief Conference focus on both the strengths and the limitations of large databases to measure quality, outcomes, and costs in health care.

An initial article provides an overview about assessing quality using administrative data. (Article, p. 666.).

Articles are organized into the areas of databases, research, quality measurement and improvement, and statistical methods. Each of these four areas is summarized in a concluding piece highlighting the articles contained within that section.

(Database Standardization, Linkage, and the Protection of Privacy, p. 696.)

(Database Research: Is Happiness a Humongous Database? p. 725.)

(Measuring Plans and Measuring Health, p. 751.)

(Biostatistics to Improve the Power of Large Databases, p. 769.)

A closing article discusses the future of databases in the next millennium. (The Future, p. 770.)
