Newswise — Baylor Universitys graduate accounting students had the second highest pass rate in the nation for students who took and passed all four sections of the 2007 Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam released by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). (The 2007 test results are the most recent.)

80 percent of the Baylor students passed. This is the third straight year that Baylor graduate students have achieved a national top- 5 ranking. Undergraduate students also fared well; their 57.14 percent pass rate ranks them 16th in the nation among first-time candidates without advanced degrees.

In 2006, Baylor graduate accounting students earned top honors for first time pass rates on the audit section with 100 percent passing, and on the regulation section with 90.91 percent passing. "To be consistently recognized on the national level for our CPA pass rate is an indication of the quality accounting education students receive at Baylor," Dr. Charles Davis, department chair of Accounting and Business Law, said.

Davis attributes the students' success to two main factors, "the students' dedication and hard work in studying and the solid accounting foundations they receive from our talented faculty." Not only do students prepare for the exam in their accounting classes as part of their degree program, they also spend approximately 50-60 hours in a special review class, along with the hours of studying spent outside the classroom for the exam.
