CHEST PHYSICIANS FROM 50 COUNTRIES TO ATTEND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

Physicians from 50 countries will participate in CHEST 1997 -- the International Assembly of the American College of Chest Physicians--to be held in New Orleans, October 26 - 30, 1997.

The annual conference, is considered THE clinical congress of diseases of the chest and will address chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, sleep disorders, respiratory failure, pleural disease and heart disease. Original scientific presentations and state-of-the-art overviews will be presented and attempt to answer such questions as: Can Pediatric Aids Be Prevented?; Does Early Detection of Lung Cancer Save Lives?; Will Managed Care Pressures Restrict Life Or Death Decisions In The ICU?; What Are The Pulmonary Complications of Illicity Drug Use?; Is There Hard Evidence That Extended Travel Can Cause Blood Clots?; What Treatment Approaches May Lead To A Savings of $20,000 Per Patient In The ICU?; and, Is There A Difference In the Severity Of Sleep Disorders Between Asians and Caucasians?

Other presentations will address new research findings on the quality of life following lung volume reduction surgery in patients with severe pulmonary diseases; greatly improved clinical outcomes and lower cost from a new drug directed at community-acquired pneymonia; fast track recovery for elderly bypass patients; racial differences in heart attacks; a minimally invasive coronary artery bypass procedure; new pharacologic options for treating asthma; controversies on the management of COPD; lung transplantation from poisoned donors and from living family members; and, low Vitamin B-1 levels and low plasma folate levels as risk factors for heart disease in elderly men and women.
